Domain Aliases and CNAME "entry points" - Google Apps Help: "difference between a domain alias and a custom URL. If I set up mail.mydomain.com for my primary domain (registered with GApps) then this custom CNAME will take me to the login page for email of mydomain.com. It and only it can make use of ghs.google.com in the CNAME. A domain alias simply provides an alternate routing path for email to the same set of accounts used by the primary domain. It doesn't need an email login page because it has no accounts. If you wish, you can Forward mail.aliasmydomain.com to mail.mydomain.com but you can't use a CNAME or ghs.google.com to do so. You will need to look into how dreamhost handles Forwards or Redirection records."
